AM I READY FOR ROME?

You
are ready when you want to perform, improve your interpretations, and expand your artistry; when you want to improve your stagecraft and character interpretation; when you want to live in a small hotel in the historic center of Rome so that you can walk through the piazzas, cathedrals, and palaces; and when you appreciate the challenge of a highly intensive performance schedule.

WHAT IS THE ROME FESTIVAL?

A collaboration of artists from around the world who have come to experience the culture of Rome, a cradle of Western Culture. During the summer months the Rome Festival presents opera productions with multiple performances, ballet performances, and a series of orchestral and chamber music concerts at courtyards in the historic center of Rome. The outstanding acoustics of the courtyards foster a sense of intimacy between the singers and the public which is made up mostly of music lovers from Rome. Artists who succeed during the summer are sometimes invited to perform during the winter.

WHAT IS THE SUMMER INSTITUTE OF THE ROME FESTIVAL?

The Summer Institute provides orchestral experience (symphonic, opera, ballet) at the highest level, chamber music performances, and special classes for musicians from Italy, the United States, and other countries. American musicians have come from every region, socioeconomic level, and ethnic group in America. They have ranged in age from the early twenties to the late fifties.

WHAT ARE THE OPERA, CHORAL INSTITUTES, AND YOUNG ARTISTS PROGRAM?

They provide performance experience at the highest level for singers from Italy, the USA, and other countries. American singers ranging in age from their late teens to their late fifties have come from every region, socioeconomic level, and ethnic group.

WHAT GOVERNS THE FESTIVAL AND INSTITUTES?

The Associazione Rome Festival in Italy and Rome Festival Orchestra, Ltd., an American 501-c-3 educational charity, govern the Festival and Institutes. They provide partial subsidy to artists who win national auditions to perform at the Rome Festival in Italy.

CAN I WIN A POSITION?

Yes, if you apply early under the Early Decision Program and if you are a dedicated, disciplined performer determined to reach your
full artistic potential.

CAN I AFFORD IT?

Definitely!
All the artists received partial subsidy and over half covered all their expenses through additional subsidy in the form of grants and/or tax-deductible contributions given through the Educational Charity, the Rome Festival Orchestra, Ltd. (IRS identification number 23-7254943). All grants and tax-deductible contributions are permissible and fully deductible as described in the IRS Income Tax Code.

WHY WILL DONORS AND CHARITIES HELP ME PERFORM IN ROME?

Administrators and donors who know you will be happy to help our charity help you reach your goal. They will be glad to help you develop your professionalism and grow artistically. They will want you to bring back from Rome and the Rome Festival knowledge and experience which will benefit your colleagues, students, and the musical ensembles with which you perform and the music lovers these ensembles serve.
